Today has been so fun! OK, not really.
This morning I took the monkeys to the bank and the grocery store. We got home around 11am. I took both kids in and then headed back to the garage to get the groceries. About 30 seconds later I walk back to the door to bring the groceries in and to my surprise... the door is dead bolted. Then I hear a little giggle on the other side of the door. My keys, purse and phone were all taken in with the kids.
So there I am outside of my house while both children are inside and I am trying to talk Alexa through unlocking the deadbolt. Just 2 days ago Greg and I sat and watched her try to reach that deadbolt and she couldn't. How did she grow in just 2 days?
After about 5 min, Alexa didn't think it was very funny anymore. Neither did I. She was hysterically crying through the door and I was about 50% laughing and 50% crying. Both babies are inside. AHHHHH
After about 15 min of trying to talk her through turning the deadbolt and her just crying and trying to turn the door handle I decided I had better get some help. I went to the neighbors to borrow their phone. Then I call Greg hoping that somehow he was no more than 15 min away (dumb thought since he works an hour away). It didn't matter where he was, he didn't have a key to the house either. He tells me to call 911. Instead I call 411 to ask for the fire department. I didn't want to be the mom to call 911 to come help her get into her house. When she asked if it was an emergency, I said no then told her what was going on. She said, "Uh Ma'am, that is an emergency" and then she transferred me to the 911 dispatch. What a nightmare. By this time about 30 min has passed. The neighbor is talking to Alexa through the door too, trying to calm her down. This isn't working. I am talking on the phone and trying to convince Alexa to go to the back sliding glass door so that she could at least see me. This was NOT happening. She would scream NO and then say, "Mommy Help You" (i.e. Help Me). It was so sad.
Finally the fire department showed up. About 15 min later, they were in and rescued my princess. All in all it was about one hour of madness.
Luckily, Gavin slept the whole time! What an ordeal. Alexa wouldn't let go of me for about 30 min after. And ever since she has followed my every move. She is now napping. I bet I'll get a good long one out of her. An hour of crying will wear anyone out.
THANK GOODNESS for firemen.

Oh my gosh!! What a nightmare! But, I couldn't help laughing a little either. I guess that happened to my mom one time with my brother & I, but we were in a car, not the house. I have not blogged forever & I havent even seen pics of GAVIN!!! Wow! I can't believe you had him almost a month ago! He is so beautiful! I remember how pretty Alexa was too! I bet you have your hands full now...2 kids..ahh! Well, it has been so long. Glad you guys are doing so well. Any trips to Utah w/ the new baby?! Let me know. Miss ya!
That is funny and sad! A similar thing happened to me the other day. Jeffrey and I were cleaning out the car and he came in the house for a minute and locked the door. Luckily (and not so luckily), he can open the front door easily (with child lock and all!) so I sent him to the front door. Problem solved. Way to go firefighters!
what the heck! Even though I am sitting hear reading this and laughing, I feel so bad for you and Alexa!! I would have just died! Hopefully she can recover from the trama and go on to lead a normal life!! haha!
OH MY GOSH, Niki! I seriously didn't know whether to laugh or CRY reading your post. I'm so glad everything worked out okay and OH what a story you'll have when she's older. BTW, did you teach her how to UNbolt the door now?? LOL. Love the new pictures of Gavin too, he is such a beautiful baby. Now that things have settled down, can I drive a meal out to you? Let me know what your week looks like (^_^)
I did the same thing just a couple of months ago. I was that mom that called 911 and told them how Kellen was locked in the car. I felt really stupid but I was glad the fire department came and helped. I am sorry you went through that ordeal! Down the road you will laugh about it.
Being a mom is such fun!! Glad everything is fine!
