We took the kids in for their 1 & 3 year old appointments. As I am sure I have mentioned I LOVED the kids doctor in AZ. Christine Mohler at Desert Shores Pediatrics. She was FABULOUS! She (and everyone else in her practice) is SO happy to see you, so lovable and friendly towards the kids and extremely thorough. Plus the office is ADORABLE, so clean (i.e. smelt like Lysol all of the time) and precise. Anyhow, I stressed about finding doctors for the kids here. I ended up taking them to an office which was referred to us and very close to home. There are three doctors there so with A & G both having May bdays we saw 2 of them in the past week. I was very unimpressed and not happy with my decision to take them there. Both doctors were nice but barely talked to the kids or even made small talk with me. They were thorough and knowledgeable but I think that the personal aspect of the visit makes a huge difference in how the kid feels and how I feel about the doctor. Needless to say I am on the search again for a new doc for my kids. Any suggestions?
Back to their visits. Alexa as always is thriving. 1 year+ ahead of the curve with her learning/smarts and she is tall and skinny. Gav on the other hand has the doctor a bit concerned. He is only in the 13% for weight at 20lbs (I know, he doesn't look like he is too skinny) and he is 55% for height which is fine. But he isn't standing on his own yet and not even close to walking on his own. I know kids who haven't walked until 18 months but the doctor freaked me out and said that if he isn't walking by 15 months he will have to be entered into an early intervention program! Anyhow, we are going to really focus on helping him walk on his own rather than baby him so much which is probably the biggest problem. The funny thing is, in the past 24 hours he has made some big improvements. He is walking with his walker all of a sudden tonight (video below) and in the car tonight he signed dog, more, all done and frog (I think frog or he just happened to be flicking his fingers by his chin while the video was playing the frog song). I was really worried yesterday but tonight I am feeling a little bit better. He is a major babbler but doesn't really say any words yet so hopefully that will begin to improve as well. We'll see!
Here is the video. I really must be turning into my mother with the unsteady hand, sorry.
PS. Last week Gav started crawling up the stairs. This is his new favorite activity. If I take my eyes off him for a second, he is off to and up the stairs. I need another gate!

Seriously, that is why I rarely take any of my kids to the doctor. I hate how they freak you out about nothing. Both Tanner and Brody didn't start walking till close to 18 months (no special programs were needed). Tanner took forever to start talking and now he has a bigger vocabulary than a lot of kids older than him. Do NOT stress about Gavin. Just keep loving that little guy. Good luck finding a doc that you like. :)
We love our Dr. He is part of a large practice of docs called Wasatch Pediatrics. We go to the Cottonwood pediatrics location. Our regular doctor is Terry Omura. He is an MD/PhD and I used to work with his wife. He is great with Brinley and always very gentle with her. He talks with her and takes his time. He is great with us newby parents too, he answers any questions we have and tells us to email him if we ever need anything. He has responded to every email I have ever sent him. They have urgent care hours and someone on call on the weekends. We have also seen Dr. Wall there on an urgent care visit. He was great, took his time showing us how to flush our Brinley's nose (she was only 3 weeks old and had a cold). Today I had to call the on call doc because my baby is sick again. I thought he would be all annoyed but he was so nice, he talked me through all of my concerns and was great, that was Dr. Cosgrove. So we are 3 for 3. The office we go to is by Fashion Place Mall. Ok, end of novel, good luck!
